A 41-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from the municipality of Peel en Maas were arrested on Tuesday for involvement in a multi-million fraud with online casinos. The man is also suspected of forgery and fraud. Under false pretenses, the two would have paid out welcome bonuses at various online casinos. Instead, the money they earned was laundered by means of investments in real estate. If you want to play and get fair initial bonuses, then study the list of online casinos. There are much more honest casinos than cheaters. However, the duo earned over two million euros with the fraud of online casinos.
Yesterday, Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in the municipality of Peel en Maas in Limburg, just below Venlo, the Fiscal Intelligence and Investigation Service searched their homes.
A 41-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were arrested, the FIOD reports on its website. The man and woman's home was searched, and physical and digital records and premises were seized.
The investigating agency of the Dutch Tax Administration writes that the duo earned over two million euros with the fraud of online casinos. The woman is only suspected of money laundering. On top of money laundering, the man is also suspected of forgery and swindling.
The criminal investigation into both was started with residual information from another FIOD investigation and is led by the Functional Prosecutor's Office.
Speaking to CasinoNieuws.nl, FIOD spokesperson Wietske Visser said that the pair are suspected of having committed fraud with welcome bonuses for new customers:
"The suspicion is that the suspect, by means of false identity documents and also other false pretences, has repeatedly collected the so-called welcome bonuses for new customers at online casinos. The money earned with the scam was then invested in real estate, among other things. In the investigation, this real estate was seized, among other things."
The spokeswoman could not say from which other FIOD investigation the case had arisen because that case had not yet been completed.
The spokeswoman could not say from which other FIOD investigation the case had arisen.
At the end of May 2021, the FIOD was involved in a raid in Velsen and a house in Spain. A 56-year-old owner of the house in Velsen was suspected of operating an illegal online casino and money laundering.
A month late, June 2021, the FIOD was involved in a raid in the Netherlands. In that case, the Public Prosecutor seized €100 million in an international operation against an illegal online casino. In the process, six Dutch nationals were arrested and seized art, homes, boats, and jewelry, among other items.
Whether the three cases are related, the spokeswoman for the FIOD could not say.
All three investigations are under the direction of the National Prosecutor's Office. The Functional Prosecutor's Office is a specialist section of the Public Prosecution Service that focuses on combating complex fraud.
